Trees/Hope

This is part of the base of the water oak that sits at the end of our driveway.  My dad planted it as a sapling over four decades ago.
Today it is a beautiful giant tree, full of tiny acorns that rattle on our tin roof every fall.

Each time I get out of my car I look at this tree and feel the connection to my dad.  It is true that those who plant trees have hope for the future, a belief that someone else will enjoy their beauty.  My dad knew he would never live to see this tree reaching up to the sky but he had hopes that some of us would.
