Endless Summer

It hasn't been the best year for my pomegranate tree, only three fruits this time but maybe next year will be better.

Today is the last day of September and  temps back in the 90's.  It could be worse.  A friend of ours who lives in Florida said their temp hit 108 today.   Wow.  A long hot summer that will not go away.

We decided at the Monday night yoga class that it might be time for serious measures.  Someone suggested a naked rain dance, at this point, I think we are all ready to try anything.

Silly Birthday

Our great niece Joy celebrated her eight birthday today.  She had a surprise party and she was surprised!  I am sure all the giggles from the silly string attack could be heard in outer space.
She loves Kermit the Frog, everything was green, including the cake.

A weekend of chickens and stilly string, our lives are not dull.

The Chicken Show

We attended the 4H chicken show and auction today.  It was hot as blazes but it was fun.
Jordan won a second place for medal for showmanship ( that is when he had a one on one conversation with the judge)  he explained all he had done the past few months to care for his chickens and also present his book to them.  ( The book explains in detail everything from remodeling the pen to present day and includes photos.)

He also won second place for best breed of chickens ( Easter eggers) This is all about how healthy his chickens were.

This was his first year in 4H and to compete.  Many of the other kids have been in involved with 4H for several years.  We think he did great.

Focus

Transformations come sometime when you least expect them.  The other thing about transformations they are not always "big" ones.  I experienced a small one this week.  I had finished another online class and at the end of the class as a surprise the instructor had sent a five minute meditation video.
Now I teach meditation classes and it takes a lot to surprise with me, this one did.
The meditation deals with focus and bringing clarity to what is important to you.

It came at the perfect time.  I have listened to it daily and suddenly I have found myself making decisions that I have toyed with for months. Bringing into focus some of the things that are important to me has been my transformation.  Before it seemed so hard, but this week the brain rewired and things came easy.  Choices are clear.

Tomorrow we go to the "chicken show and auction".  Jordan came over this evening, he is excited and has been practicing his presentation.  I am so proud of him.  I know he will give it his best shot.
We will have pictures to post tomorrow night and hopefully a ribbon or two to display.  Fingers crossed.

Bone Dry

We were so excited about those few drops of rain last night.  There was some vivid lightening and loud claps of thunder.  It seems that vivid lightening might have struck a tree on the property behind us and started a forest fire.  Around 7:00 tonight, the forestry folks pulled out telling us the fire was contained.  Fingers are crossed.

Our woods are bone dry.  We have been down this road before and it is a scary one.  When I walked out to feed the birds this morning I could smell the burning pine needles.  We need way more than a few drops of rain.  Our nephew Haven spent the afternoon with the forestry group, showing them the lay of the land, helping them cut fire lanes.  This is when we hook up all our water hoses and hold our breath.  Haven told me tonight that the way the lanes were cut if the fire ignites again it should move away from us.

Thursdays are long emotional and physical days for me.  Rick picked up Chinese for dinner and I have been a slug.  A night's sleep will do me good.

Be kind tomorrow, urge those around you to be kind, we all need it.

Rain Giddiness

For a few short minutes we had rain tonight.  It was just a passing shower, but the first drops we have had in weeks.  We both were giddy with gratitude.  Hoping a change is coming.

Rick had some routine tests today so we were in Birmingham for the morning.  I have come to the conclusion that even if you are not sick, if you spend time at a hospital it is exhausting.  I think it's the energy of being surrounded by those who are ill( much like my job) and it drains the life right out of you.  We both came home and slept for a couple of hours.

I hope your work week is winding down with no drama.  Laugh out loud tomorrow.  Be kind.

Fall

I should have steamed it, but hopefully the heat will get the creases out.  I thought that by hanging the fall flag, fall weather might appear.  Will let you know how that works out.

Tomorrow is hump day, the week is half over.
