A visit to the acupuncturist today, and then on the way home we stopped by work and I picked up my yoga blankets so I could wash them. Many complain about their commutes to work, but I am lucky.
My drive is all country backroads. This time of year the roadsides are sprinkled with Queen Anne Lace and day lilies and mimosa trees. The dainty white lace, alongside the glowing orange, mixed with the feathery rose makes country roads look as though Monet dropped by for a visit. Blue skies and white cotton clouds made the drive home almost surreal.
Our temps are still hot and we have not had rain in some time. It seems the weather goes from one rampage to the next. Hurricane season starts tomorrow and that is never nothing to celebrate.
Hopefully Mother Nature will discover moderation soon and things will settle down for everyone.
Enjoy your Saturday. Laugh out loud, spread some kindness. Tonight is the end of May 2019.
Five months into the year, don't blink, it's going so fast.

Quotes
I write quotes on my board every day at work. Often the students copy them. Many of them laugh because the quotes are so diverse, everything from Buddha to Hemingway to the Beatles to Pooh Bear.
This quote by Hemingway is one of my favorites, I use it often. It is as pertinent today as when he wrote it. I would have loved to have met him.
" There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man;
true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway

Butterfly Beauty
I know my posts have been brief the past couple of days. Bouts of vertigo and migraine have slithered in and out of my life since Sunday, there is no rhyme or reason.
But the flowers are blooming and the garden continues to thrive.
I love my butterfly garden. It has red roses, pink peonies and the butterfly bushes. There is always a dance of dragonflies, butterflies and bees swarming from bloom to bloom.
Spread some kindness tomorrow, we all need it.

A Break
I had gotten dressed and ready for work today, the phone rang about five minutes before time to go.
It was my boss telling me not to come. He had given the patients a holiday free time on campus.
They were grilling, playing soft ball and basket ball, enjoying the day. I was glad. Often all the days run together and no one even knows what day it is. Time moves fast and then it drags. A break from the very structured routine helps morale.
Rick and I just hung out. It has been a day of rest. For the past few weeks we have both gone non-stop, a lazy day was perfect.
Today is Memorial Day. If you have a friend or family member who made the supreme sacrifice, bless you. For all of those who have died while serving in the military for this country, their families live with that sacrifice every day. That life will never be replaced and the people who loved them are changed forever. War has never made sense to me, and the older I get, it makes even less sense.
If you celebrated today, I hope you remember why this day is a holiday.
This remembrance has been going on since the Civil War. I read a little blurb about the history of it today. In the south that remembrance continues, now known as Decoration Day where flowers are placed on graves. It's a dying tradition, but our families still honor it. Almost every Sunday in May and June, you will see people placing flowers on graves. I decorated my family's graves on Mother's Day, next weekend I place flowers on my father's family graves and the second Sunday in June Rick's family will celebrate their Decoration Day. My mom always said "it was the last thing you could do to honor the dead, just place some flowers on their grave." My photo doesn't have anything to do with any of this, but the bush with the pink and yellow flowers belonged to my grandmother, Mamie.
I love that her flowers and my mom's still grow in my yard.

Happy
Hot and getting hotter...no rain...humid, but beautiful blue skies, that was today in Alabama.
But the day lilies made me smile, and the garden is growing by leaps and bounds. Mixing mint with the lilies made everything feel a little cooler.
This is the last week of May for the year 2019. June is waiting in the wings and then we will be six months into this year. Graduations and weddings and showers are everywhere, summer vacations are being enjoyed already. I hope this week brings joy, kindness and many hugs.

Our Commitment
We watched a video tonight, Commit to the Song. It was a beautiful film, a piece of art.
We both sat and cried and laughed. You can rent it on Amazon.
In a nutshell, it's about songwriters, a community, love for what they do and for each other.
As singer/songwriters living in rural Alabama, we often feel like strangers in a strange land.
We both know, we will never be famous or rich because of our songs, yet we just keep on.
We know most of our life is behind us, yet we just keep on. It is a commitment this singer/songwriter stuff. It is a marriage between soul and creative self. It lasts a lifetime.
Because we don't play cover tunes or other people's music, gigs are hard to come by. Yet we keep on.
Those few hours we get to play each month are mana and it keeps us going until the next time.
I know most of you when you hear live music, want to hear those songs you have already created memories from, those tunes on the radio. But sometime when you are out, go hear something unique.
Listen to original music, stories and experiences that are not on the radio.
Hear someone express themselves straight from their heart and soul. You might be surprised to find new memories stirring.
